Africa's fifth-highest peak and Tanzania's best-kept trekking secret. At 4,566 metres, Mount Meru rises from Arusha National Park through rainforest, moorland, and a dramatic ash cone to the Socialist Peak summit. Giraffe and buffalo share the lower slopes. The view of Kilimanjaro from the top, 70 km away across the Maasai steppe, is one of Africa's finest sights.
