About Mboka
I grew up in Arusha, in the shadow of a mountain most people fly past on their way to a bigger one. For years I watched Land Cruisers leave in the morning full of strangers, and come back in the evening quieter than when they left. I wanted to know what happened out there.
Mboka means "the village at the heart of things" in Swahili. I named the company that on purpose, I didn't want to build something that stands between you and Tanzania. I wanted to build the village that brings you into it. I started Mboka in 2021, after years guiding for other people's lodges, because I kept thinking the finest journeys shouldn't need a template.
We are small, and we intend to stay that way. Our guides are not hired for a season, they're from here, and they stay. When you write to us, a person answers, and that person will still be there when you land at Kilimanjaro. Come as a guest. Leave as one of us.

We do not offer packaged tours. Every journey begins with a conversation, your interests, your pace, what you want to feel. Our designers then build something that has never existed before and never will again.

We deliberately limit the number of guests we take each year. This is not a growth business, it is a craft. Fewer clients means more time, more attention, and more transformative encounters.

The single greatest determinant of your safari experience is the person beside you in the vehicle. Every Mboka guide undergoes a rigorous selection and mentorship process that takes years, not weeks.

Founder
Born in Arusha, in the shadow of Kilimanjaro. Amani started Mboka after years guiding for other people's lodges. If you write to us, he's often the one who reads it.
Maasai-born
Guide
Lorai was raised inside Maasai tradition, and he doesn't perform it for visitors, he simply lives it, and lets you stand close enough to feel it. Spend a day with him and something shifts: you stop watching Tanzania and start feeling it, the way he does.
Born on the edge of the Serengeti
Guide
Julius reads a print in the dust the way you'd read a name, one glance, and he knows which of the Big Five passed, and roughly how long ago.
